Undone is the third book in the Will Trent series. Will Trent and his partner Faith Mitchell are part of the GBI. When the book begins, Faith had passed out and she has been taken to the ER. Here is where Will will meet Sara Linton for the first time.Sara Linton was the main protagonist from Karin Slaughter's Grant series. She's a pediatrician as well as a coroner back in Grant County. In Undone, she has moved to Atlanta and is working as an ER doc. Something horrible happened to her 3 1/2 years ago and she needed a change of scenery. She's still healing. And now, when she looked in the mirror and saw a new line on her own face,a new wrinkle, all she could think was that she was growing old without himAt the same time that Faith is in the ER, a woman is brought in. She was hit by a car but a lot more has happened to her before the car accident. What she has suffered turns her into a GBI investigation. A serial killer is on the loose and Will, Faith, and Sara will all be involved in the investigation.Another amazing book in the Will Trent series. It has become one of my favorite series. The character development is extensive and thoughtful. My thoughts on the main players:Will---> So damaged. His past has marked him and despite being a smart man he has many vulnerabilities. One his wife loves to exploit.Whos Sara?Sara Linton, Faith said. He shrugged, and she studied him carefully. Will never forgot names. He never forgot anything. The doctor from yesterday? Is that her name?Faith resisted a Come on.He asked, How would she know how long Anna was kept? She used to be a coroner in some county way down south.Wills eyebrows went up. He slowed to look at another sign. A coroner? Thats weird. He was one to talk. She was a coroner and a pediatrician. Will mumbled as he tried to make out the sign. I took her for a dancer.Woodland, Faith read. A dancer? Shes twenty feet tall.Dancers can be tall.Faith --> I like her but gosh she can be mean! Luckily it didn't last. She's starting to trust Will and their relationship is more like siblings.I am just an awful, awful person, Sara. I cant believe I said that to you.Sara--> I loved Sara from the moment I first started reading the Grant series. She's awesome and she was great in Undone too. She deserves happiness and I hope she achieves it with Will at some point.Amanda Wagner--> She's tough on Will and also with Faith but I do think she protects them and cares for them.Angie--> Not my favorite character. She uses Will and she doesn't care about his feelings. She had a tough past as well but this doesn't give her a free pass to hurt Will constantly.Betty- Will's dog. Love her. Sara studied him. "Is that a Chihuahua behind your back?""No, I'm just happy to see you"Sara gave him a confused smile, and he reluctantly showed her Betty.Going forward with Broken.Cliffhanger: No5/5 FangsMrsLeif's Two Fangs About It | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
4.5 "I fucking hate Angie" stars! This series is a spin off from the Grant County series... I had started this series when I realised that one of the character who was going to show up in this series already featured in the other series... Now I am a bit of a stickler for reading in order, so I had to stop this series and go back to the other. Confused yet??Will and Faith work for the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation). These two. Lord above, they sure have some baggage and interesting pasts, especially Will. He is not even my typical hero/leading man but I do love him. I want to take care of him. I want him to have a lovely life... I want him to tell Angie to FUCK OFF.Faith was not really his type but she was an attractive woman, and attractive women could get away with a lot. Sara Linton, for instance, could probably get away with murder. When I started this series, I wasn't sure how the romantic theme was going to go. I sort of wanted Will and Faith together but I think they are better as work partners ... but I want them to be friends. I want them to open up more to each other. Fingers crossed.FAITH"She's not even a real doctor. She's a pediatrician.Ouch, Faith, not nice ... she did her training as much as a "real" doctor.SARAIt was great to catch up with Sara. She has moved to Atlanta. Three years or more have passed since that harrowing event in her life. "He's not crying. Why is he not crying?"Some of the scenes are fairly gruesome. Won't go into much detail. There are a lot of religious connotations also, which were interesting. We have some side characters who appear throughout the books. Amanda. Jeez, she's a bit of a bitch. But I guess she didn't get that high up the ladder in what, in reality, is a "man's world."AMANDAHe thought again about what Sara had said. Learn from your mistakes.ANGIENo comment really about her. I think the author portrays her as a person we are not supposed to like. I certainly don't like her. But they have a history together. Will did not move for anything. He lay on the floor all night, until the sun coming through the windows told him it was time to go back to work.Will. What to say about Will? I want him to be happy. I want him to have the white picket fence.WILL BTW, does anybody know who my "Will" is - I keep using the same picture in all the reviews and want to post a different one soon. Thanks to Alexandra (Alleskelle), I now know who my "Will" is.
This is book #3 to the Will Trent series and it is a mystery/thriller. I have to say I did enjoy the book, and the characters. It flows well with plenty of action and excitement. In this installment Will and Faith have to find and stop a serial killer who brutally manipulates his victims through starvation, torture and rape, all while dealing with their own personal issues. Who will be next?I really enjoyed the mystery to this installment. I think the story flowed well and had some pretty good 'edge of your seat' moments. I think the imagery was also really good with a great plot line while tactfully targeting eating disorders. So it had a great mix of different elements.I really like Will Trent a lot. He has some major issues with some that have not been touched on yet. I am eager to see if in upcoming installments we learn more about him. I also enjoy Faith's character. She is tough as nails and knows how to get the job done. A great mix of antagonists and protagonists that are well developed throughout the series.I recommend this book/series to any mystery lover. Slaughter pushes the limits between moral and immoral issues in her writing and I really enjoy that. Sometimes teetering on the darker side. I look forward to the rest of the series.
It's been over three years since Sara Linton left Grant County following her personal tragedy and she's now working in Atlanta, back at Grady Hospital. Though she's moving forward with her life, it's still a slow pace. When she attends a woman who shows up in the ER, obviously brutalized, Sara is hurtled into an investigation that leads to more horror and Will Trent (he's not the horror!). This marks the intersection of the Grant County series and I was glad to see Sara reappear here. She and Will have an obvious connection, though not necessarily a romantic one yet. Their contributions to the investigation fit nicely and I liked the direction. Speaking of the case, this was a real puzzler and the lines between victims and perpetrators weren't always clear. It just made things that more interesting and maddening. I'm not sure what to make of it all but there was a lot I liked about the journey to the end. As always, the narration was excellent, drawing clear character distinctions and augmenting the story without overwhelming the narrative. I can't seem to get enough of this series, despite the occasional gruesome passage.
I just discovered Karin Slaughter, and as most of you know, there's nothing as good as finding a "new" (to you) author who has many books already published. No "waiting for the next one to come out" anxiety! Before I had finished "Fractured" I KNEW I had to have "Undone"...and I wasn't disappointed. Slaughter came through for me again, with excellent suspense and a great cast of characters brought to life flawlessly and with depth.Having never read the 'Grant County' series, I was afraid the reintroduction of Sara Linton would either confuse me (because I'd never heard of her) or mess up what I think is great chemistry between my favorite Georgia detectives Will Trent and Faith Mitchell. But the author works these three characters together seamlessly. *for more about these characters, please see my (or anyone's) reviews of earlier novels. It should also be noted that you need NOT know the backgrounds of these characters to enjoy this book. Yes, it is part of a series, but EACH BOOK STANDS ALONE JUST FINE!I've recommended "Undone" to friends, but always with a warning: this is a tale of a dark, violent, SERIOUSLY twisted sociopath and Ms. Slaughter doesn't pull her punches. The book doesn't include ACTS of torture or violence, but certainly & thoroughly DESCRIBES the aftermath. The author's villain in this mystery/suspense novel is BEYOND demented and sadistic.Ms. Slaughter, I am learning, is an expert at leading her readers in so many directions--all connected, yet separate-- that during "Undone", at one time or another, I was SURE that everyone but the cops was the "guy who did it". And ya gotta love a crime novel that you can't figure out til the end!
