I enjoyed this, I've not read much in the way of suspense/thriller type books before so didn't know whether this would be my cup to tea, however I need not have worried. I was quickly pulled into the story which takes place (apart from the last chapter or two)over a relatively short time period, involving Bastien who works for some sort of inteligence agency and Chloe a translator who is unwitingly pulled into the inside activity and fallings out of a cartel running illegal arms. The story follows Bastiens attempts to keep Chloe safe and Chloes attempts to stay alive. Whilst all this is taking place Chloe is falling for Bastien, who despite his tough hard image is falling for her, although as a reader you had no chance of him admitting even the remotest feeling for her to you. This story was suspenseful in a similar way to a James Bond book there's blood, death, violence and sex, the H/H do fall in love but it's a painful journey not least because of Bastiens cold demeanour, and whilst Chloe could've been a weak and wimpy heroine she was fiesty and strong, so perhapes it wasn't all that strange that Bastien should fall for her. A great read for those who don't mind a gamma hero and an action packed albeit violent journey.Eagerly awaiting the next book to arrive from the library:)

"She'd remember, and she'd start shaking, and there was no one there to remind her to breathe."This is such a hard book to review. Totally easy to rate, though.Five Huge StarsI can understand why some people took Bastien to be just a little too cold-hearted. But I just can't bring myself to care. I LOVED him, so much! He is ruthless and soulless. For nearly the entire book, he just doesn't back down. But you also get a glimpse of the emptiness that he exists with, the nothingness that is in his head and in his heart. It sounds crazy, but I fell in love with him even before he (sort of) redeems himself.Breathe, Chloe. You know how in historical romances, they say that reformed rakes make the best husbands? It's because they need that ONE woman to show them what has been missing. Sebastian has no joy...nothing to look forward to, no light at the end of the tunnel. His days are filled with ruthless determination to get the job done, no matter the cost. His allies aren't friends, they are expendable helpers...as is Chloe. The fact that she is a complete innocent never even factors into the equation. He is just so unreachable. And it's crazy, the way that he slowly starts to thaw. I didn't realize how much I was rooting for him until I finally, finally started to see a little glimmer of light. These tiny flickers of tenderness...AH!!! They are so much more golden due to their rarity!!I know that all I've done so far is defend Bastien. I put off this series for so long due to the negative reviews about the ultimate gamma hero who never redeems himself. So here is my defense of a misunderstood man. And they are right in the fact that Bastien doesn't redeem himself the way a normal romance hero usually does. There are no hearts and flowers for Bastien and Chloe. Just a knowledge of the deep affection and seriously passionate love that Bastien feels. I could just tell that it's a one time only thing for him. Chloe is IT. She is all he sees. What is more romantic than that?

Weird book. Not really bad, but not exactly good. Just...weird.Why? Because the whole book is so cold-blooded. I think the only character that had any heart or soul was Chloe. And I'm not exactly sure how rational she was considering she fell for Sebastien. Not that I really disliked Sebastien. He was rather interesting, but he seems more the type for some really great sex than for love and family. He's also one you probably wouldn't want to turn your back on because he's a cold-blooded killer. Sure he softens up some throughout the book, but I could never bring myself to quite like him. Especially at the end when he's thinking about how he really didn't care if something happened to Chloe's family, but he knew it would upset Chloe so he would try to keep them safe. To me, that doesn't make him great HEA material. I'm not sure I'd want to have kids with him (which considering they never used protection, could have easily happened - and why wasn't that ever brought up?).I was just put off a bit by the lack of conscientious throughout the book by just about everyone. Like how the cab driver was killed for no good reason at all. I hated that. I can't really get emotionally invested in a story that does things like that. But the storyline was still interesting enough to keep me reading. I do agree with one of the other reviews here that it's not a very plausible plot. It did seem rather bizarre that these high-level gun-runners would bring in an outsider to translate. And I never quite got whey sending Chloe back to the states would make her safe. If they wanted her dead, they would find her wherever she was. I mean, they had her full name, it would be pretty easy to track her down. But despite the somewhat silliness of the plot, it kept me reading. And the chemistry between Chloe and Bastien was hot - even if I couldn't exactly buy into them having an HEA.I liked the book enough to give the next one in the series a try and go from there. I picked it up at the library today.
